Daniel 'Gawndy' Gawned is a breakfast radio host who has worked in stations all across Australia. Be persistently visible to decision-makers (e.g. sending regular emails to program directors) rather than playing it too cool, while being careful not to come across as trying to push others out of the way — it's a fine line that requires picking your moments.

Listen back to your own recorded work regularly, not for self-congratulation but to critically review what could be tightened or said differently next time, similar to how footballers review game tape.
Gawndy explains that when he took the silent anchor role on the Hughesy and Kate show in 2012, Hughesy decided 'Gondi' sounded too similar to his own name and renamed him 'Dan.' When Gawndy eventually left the show, he was replaced by a different host also named Dan, and listeners barely noticed, with some messaging Gawndy about content long after he'd left.
Gawndy recalls interviewing Keith Urban for his ACRA award submission tape and asking him about his trademark middle-part hairstyle, which he's kept for roughly 30 years, joking that his question was more 'why' than 'how'.
